Only months after launching HTC Exodus the first crypto-friendly smartphone, the Taiwanese company announced yesterday the launch of a cheaper version which comes with a new feature. It is Exodus 1S it has a built-in cryptocurrency wallet and it is capable to run a full node.
Running a full node does not mean that the smartphone is capable of mining but instead means that the smartphone will be capable to store the whole bitcoin blockchain. HTC Exodus 1S price is $250, which is many times cheaper than the HTC Exodus.
The project aims to build a trading platform and is supported, among others by billionaire VC fund Tim Draper.
The bitcoin blockchain actual size is around 260 GB and to run a full node, users of the new HTC Exodus 1S will need to buy a 400GB micro SD card and insert it in the device.
Initially, the device will be available for sale in Europe, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Actually their online store says that the device is out of stock.
Phil Chen, Chief Officer at HTC, said:
“It plays a really important role in the whole Bitcoin ecosystem. It allows you to relay transactions, confirm transactions, validate transactions, and it’s basically one of the best ways for anybody to contribute to the whole security of the network.”
